Woodstock Passive House Project

THE HOME IS AVAILABLE FOR TOURS BY APPOINTMENT; CONTACT US FOR MORE INFORMATION AND SCHEDULING.

The WPH is a demonstration of a certified Passive House built with autoclaved aerated concrete, and free of foam insulation. Passive House is the world’s most stringent energy program.  Built in Woodstock, NY, the Colony of the Arts, by Greenspring Building Systems, the home is built with materials that are free of harmful and irritating chemicals, using technology and techniques that will cut down on the energy use and maintenance cost of a typical home. The structure is resistant to fire, termites, mice and other pests. Perhaps most important, passive building provides unsurpassed comfort.

The WPH is certified by the Passive House Institute US, the US Department of Energy Net Zero Energy Ready program, New York Energy Star, and the Environmental Protection Agency’s Water Sense and Indoor Air Plus.

Passive House is a building program based on several requirements:

  • Super-insulated

  • No paths to conduct heat through a structure (thermal bridge free)

  • Airtight, with controlled energy recovery ventilation

  • High-performance windows and doors

  • Excellent indoor air quality

  • Optimized solar gain

With a 7.56 kW photovoltaic solar system, the WPH home and apartment are operating at zero energy.
